JAKARTA – Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) received the Global Citizen Award from the Atlantic Council at the Global Food Security Forum event held at the Kecak Ballroom, Sofitel Nusa Dua Beach Resort, Bali, Sunday (11/13/2022). In his remarks, the Head of State said that the award was a motivation to increase participation in solving world problems.
“Thank you for the Global Citizen Award to me and this will further motivate me and the Indonesian government to carry out the great responsibility of being part of the world’s solution,” said the President.
According to the President, during his work he never thought about getting an award. The President admitted that he only carried out his duties with full responsibility and in accordance with human values.
“It never occurred to me to have this honorable award. What I have been doing is just working as well as I can with full responsibility for the sake of human values,” said the President.
In addition, Indonesia as a compound country consisting of 17 thousand islands, 1,340 ethnic groups, and 652 local languages is considered to have taught the values of tolerance, peace, unity, and cooperation. Therefore, the President always takes the time to go directly to the field to see the difficulties faced by the people.
“The greatest difficulty is always felt by those at the bottom, by poor families, by low-income countries. Therefore, I always try hard to fight for the independence of the small people and also voice the interests of low-income countries in various forums,” he said.
The President also emphasized that the world cannot be built with rivalry and greed, but must be built with tolerance and cooperation that is respectful and mutually beneficial. Through this spirit of tolerance and cooperation, Indonesia will carry out its mandate as the G20 presidency in 2022 and Indonesia’s chairmanship in ASEAN in 2023.
“Indonesia’s presidency at the G20 this year and Indonesia’s chairmanship in ASEAN have been handed over to me next year based on these spirits,” said the President.
